Movie #127 - Mothra

Title: Mosura

Director: IshirĂ´ Honda

Release Year: 1961

Plot Summary: Mightiest monster in all creation! Ravishing a universe for love! (okay so that's the tagline not the plot summary, I like it dammit.)

Thoughts: It was everything Drew promised and more! A shipwreck on a mysterious island! Tiny women who finish each others' sentences, and can control Mothra with the power of song! A giant caterpillar swimming through the ocean! And he didn't even mention the painted aborigines who bang coconuts together! This was very possibly the best movie ever.

Rating (0-10): 9.9

Recommendations: How can you resist?!

Movie #126 - The Bodyguard

Title: The Bodyguard

Director: Mick Jackson

Release Year: 1992

Plot Summary: A former Secret Service agent takes on the job of bodyguard to a pop singer, whose lifestyle is most unlike a President's.

Thoughts: Yeah, I'll admit it, I scoffed and rolled my eyes when the girls chose this one to watch. But damn it all if it wasn't actually pretty good. Kevin Costner did a solid job, and Whitney Houston surprisingly didn't come off as a singer-slash-wannabe-actress. Really I have to say there wasn't a disappointing performance in the bunch.

I have to say I was a bit disappointed in the Macguffin in the plot, but I suppose it actually led to some interesting character development, so I'll let it slide. Overall a pretty solid film, and I enjoyed it much more than I thought I would.

Rating (0-10): 7

Secommendations: If you are being forced to watch a chick-flick, this is definitely one of your more painless options. ;)

Movie #125 - Deconstructing Harry

Title: Deconstructing Harry

Director: Woody Allen

Release Year: 1997

Plot Summary: Suffering from writer's block and eagerly awaiting his writing award, Harry Block remembers events from his past and scenes from his best-selling books as characters, real and fictional, come back to haunt him.

Thoughts: Apparently I was caught up in Andrea's whirlwind Woody Allen movie streak, and I can't honestly say I was disappointed in my first experience with the guy. Harry was wicked as hell, and just as funny. Harry is a narcissistic bastard with a whole slew of problems and issues, and yet even as you see more and more how much of a prick he is, the more "likeable" he becomes. :)

Rating (0-10): 8.7

Recommendations: If all of Woody Allen's movies are this good, I guess he really is as much of a genius as the critics have been telling me. If it means anything, now I'm interested in seeing more of his work.

Movie #124 - A River Runs Through It

Title: A River Runs Through It

Director: Robert Redford

Release Year: 1992

Plot Summary: Two fly-fishing sons of a Presbyterian minister--one reserved, one rebellious--grow up in rural Montana.

Thoughts: I'm not really sure what I was expecting out of this movie, but it wasn't what I ended up getting. It was quiet, thought-provoking, beautifully photographed, and just sort of tranquil, maybe. I'm not really much for religious themes and messages, but to me that wasn't even the important part - it's a story about a family.

Rating (0-10): 6.8

Recommendations: I was surprised I ended up liking it well enough, but it's still not something I'd be terribly sad if I hadn't seen.
