Movie #126 - The Bodyguard

Title: The Bodyguard

Director: Mick Jackson

Release Year: 1992

Plot Summary: A former Secret Service agent takes on the job of bodyguard to a pop singer, whose lifestyle is most unlike a President's.

Thoughts: Yeah, I'll admit it, I scoffed and rolled my eyes when the girls chose this one to watch. But damn it all if it wasn't actually pretty good. Kevin Costner did a solid job, and Whitney Houston surprisingly didn't come off as a singer-slash-wannabe-actress. Really I have to say there wasn't a disappointing performance in the bunch.

I have to say I was a bit disappointed in the Macguffin in the plot, but I suppose it actually led to some interesting character development, so I'll let it slide. Overall a pretty solid film, and I enjoyed it much more than I thought I would.

Rating (0-10): 7

Secommendations: If you are being forced to watch a chick-flick, this is definitely one of your more painless options. ;)

i pretty much any semblence of respect for kevin costner after having seen this film. i mean, after JFK what else can you do? his career still hasn't recovered.

whitney houston was passable.

but what slays me about this movie is the soundtrack. absolutely killer. in every way. i'm serious.

movie by itself = 5.5
soundtrack by itself = 9.5
put the two together = 6.5
